Metro International creates global citizens and inspires a peaceful world through one-of-a-kind programs in classrooms and communities.

Description

Metro International brings Americans and students from around the world face-to-face to share their lives and perspectives in life changing ways. Through Metro International programs, Americans and international students learn from one another and together they become active citizens in a global society.

Metro International offers programs and services to the 50,000 international students and scholars affiliated with colleges and universities in the greater New York City area each year. Through Metro programs, visiting students from more than 100 countries interact with American citizens and local residents in ways that enable each group to learn from the other.

Metro International is designated by the U.S. Department of State as the official coordinator of enrichment programs for visiting Fulbright grantees in the greater New York area.

Program Highlights

Fulbright Enrichment Programs

Through Metro International, Fulbright grantees meet New Yorkers, explore American institutions “behind the scenes,” visit local neighborhoods, and learn about facets of U.S. culture and society they might not otherwise encounter.

Global Classroom

Metro-trained students and scholars from all over the globe make curriculum-based presentations on their home countries to students in New York City public schools.

Community Visits

International students experience American home hospitality in diverse urban, suburban, and rural settings through weekend and holiday visits arranged by Metro.

Foreign Affairs Conferences

Metro organizes delegations of international students to attend foreign affairs conferences at U.S. military academies where they contribute unique perspectives on world issues and foreign policy.

Campus-to-Careers

Metro helps international students and scholars gain insight on their future careers through employment workshops and one-on-one visits with local professionals.

Professional Network Meetings

New York area international education professionals meet monthly for issue-oriented discussions sponsored by Metro.

Publications

Metro guidebooks help newly arrived international students find housing and settle comfortably and safely in New York City.
