Metro International celebrates the seventh annual International Education Week November 13 – 17th, 2006 and commemorates this year’s theme, International Education: Engaging in Global Partnerships and Opportunities

The following are just a few programs and events taking place during International Education Week in the New York/New Jersey area. Check back frequently for the latest additions!

International Education Week Events at Fordham University
Panel: Go Global... Go Local..... Becoming Global Citizens through Effective Networking
Tuesday November 14, 4:00pm - 5:00pm - McMahon Hall, 155 W. 60th St., Room 109, First Floor
This program will focus on how young professionals can network and get involved with meaningful opportunities locally and globally. An expert in networking will explore effective ways to create these partnerships and specific opportunities will be discussed. Pizza and refreshments provided.

Film Screening - Red Light Children Film Screening
(www.redlightchildren.org) Monday November 13, 6:15pm - 8:30pm Fordham University Law School, McNally Amphitheatre (also shown Sunday, November 19, 5pm, same location)
Every year, over two million children are kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery and prostitution world wide. How can a film be used to address such persistent global problems? Priority Films president Guy Jacobson offers a preview from these three critically acclaimed films prior to their release in theatres.

Presentation: "Understanding the Genocide Politically: the case of Darfur"

Dr. Amir H. Idris, Assistant Professor of African Studies, Dept. of African & African American Studies. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

Seminar: Immigration Law
Wednesday, November 15,2:00pm - 4:00pm, McGinley, Faculty Lounge
Freddi Weintraub, immigration attorney and partner at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen and Loewy, LLP will present a seminar on Employment Immigration Law addressing topics such as Permanent Residence., H-1B, Diversity Lottery.

International Education Week at The New School takes place November 13 - 17, 2006

Metro International's Global Classroom Program Reaches All Five Boroughs (Monday - Friday, November 13-17)
Global Guides, trained international students and Fulbright scholars from around the world, will visit schools and after-school programs to share their country and culture each day during IEW. Visits will reach elementary, middle, and high schools, and three Guides will speak at Bronx Community College mid-week.

Holiday Card Design Competition
Metro International is hosting a competition for Global Classroom students to design the Metro International holiday card. The winning holiday card design will promote international understanding and will be sent to hundreds of colleagues and friends. The winner will be chosen and announced towards the end of the week during IEW.

Metro International Hosts a GLBTQ Social Event
Students from across the New York and New Jersey area are encouraged to join other Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer identified students and their allies at a social night at the LGBT Community Center in Manhattan. Students will learn about resources in and around New York City, meet other LGBTQ students and allies from other schools and countries. A member of the LGBT Center will be on hand to share information about the program and opportunities at the Center. Click here for more information.
